Father's Name: Phillip Hurst Father's Birthplace: South Carolina Mother's Name: Mary Jane Gainey Mother's Birthplace: South Carolina Occupation: Retired Farmer Place of Residence: Brookesmith, Brown, Texas Joseph married Amanda Jane Davis (1867-1899) in 1885.They had two children: Thomas Oscar Hurst (1886-1948)and Mary Eleanor Hurst (1888-1943). After Amanda's death,he moved to Collin County, TX and married Keturah Melvina Bounds in 1903. Her grave stone calls her "Tura". Besides Collin county, they lived in Oklahoma, Live Oak county, and Brown county. The obituary is in error saying that he had lived in Brookesmith for 40 years. In the 1940 census they were living in Live Oak county, Texas.So they had been in Brookesmith at most 21 years. They had 4 children: Phillip Caroll Hurst (1904-1978), Mary Etta Hurst Samford (1905-1997), John Eldon Hurst (1905-1954), Joseph Lee Hurst (1914-1955)
