Bio

Eldon "Bud" Nitz, 86, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Havelock Manor Assisted Living in Lincoln. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 16 at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and continue on Monday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 10:15 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church. Eldon "Bud" Nitz was born December 18, 1925, on the family farm near Clarkson, Nebraska, to Jake and Bertha (Kroeger) Nitz. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh. He attended District 34/Langley High School through the 10th grade. He quit school to help his dad on the farm. On May 23, 1950, Eldon married Helen Wahl at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, Nebraska. They farmed eight miles north of Columbus until 1968, when they moved to Columbus. While farming, Eldon also worked at Behlen Manufacturing for 33 years. After his retirement from Behlen Manufacturing, he drove cars for Columbus Motors and Phil Spady Auto. He also worked part time at Coyote Country radio station for four years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. In May of 2006, Eldon moved to Lincoln to be closer to his daughters. He resided at Savannah Pines Independent Living Facility until finally moving to the Havelock Manor Assisted Living. He enjoyed drawing pictures with one of his pictures from the Nebraska Centennial being displayed at the State Capitol Building in Lincoln. He loved playing Kings in the Corner and Pinochle, dancing, being with his family, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, the pictures he drew, big band music, polkas, listening to his grandson Andrew playing the guitar, piano, and other instruments, and making people laugh. He loved to be around children of all ages and watch them smile as he was teaching them how to draw, giving them a piece of candy, or sitting on his lap when he was Santa Claus at Savannah Pines.
