Also she was neither able to take nourishment nor drink. Gradually she became weaker, but for several days she recognized her relatives and friends and understood what they said which she indicated by moving a finger. But slowly her life drew to a close, death coming about 10:20 o'clock, Monday forenoon while gathered about her bedside were her husband, two sons and a daughter and other relatives. The funeral was held in the Methodist Episcopal Church of Sargent on Wednesday afternoon, March 4, commencing soon after 1:45 o'clock. A large number of very beautiful flowers arranged in various designs covered the altar of the church and the casket. A large gathering of long time friends of the family were present to show their esteem for the departed and respect for those who mourn her going. Fay W Spooner was the funeral director while Rev C M Estabrook, pastor of the M E Church, had charge of the services and preached a fine sermon. The singing was by Mrs Grace J (W R) Kidder, Mrs Eva (R G) Brown being at the piano. The songs used were "Face to Face," "In the Garden," and "Asleep in Jesus." The pall bearers were Carl Metcalf, Donald Lysinger, Clark Metcalf, Elton Orvis, Lyle Orvis and Louie Bitter. Two of these, Elton and Lyle Orvis, are nephews of Mrs Semler, two, Clark and Carl Metcalf, are grand nephews, and two, Donald Lysinger and Louie Bitter are nephews-in-law, their wives being nieces. Following the close of the services at the church, a funeral procession went to the West Union Cemetery where internment was made in the family lot, where three of her children have slept for many years. Lillie Belle Orvis, daughter of John R and Chaney M (Sweet) Orvis, was born at Brush Creek, Fayette County, Iowa, September 13, 1868, and departed this life March 2, 1936, at her home in Sargent, Nebraska, at the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 15 days. At the age of 10 years, she moved with her parents to the vicinty of West Union, Nebraska. On October 30, 1883, she was united in marriage to Job J D Semler of Phillipsburg, Nebraska. To this union were born seven children, four of whom are living and they are Mrs Daisy Scholtes of Holton, Oregon, George Ray and Burt Ransom Semler both of Sargent, and Mrs Rozelle Hunt of Kimball, Nebraska. The three children preceded her in death were Lloyd Job, Ralph Orvis, and Rozine Fay. Mr and Mrs Semler celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.
