Bio
Rosenberg Herald, October 2, 1936: Many hearts throughout Fort Bend County were saddened last Friday morning when the announcement was made that Mrs. Kutej had died Thursday night at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Kohutek, in Rosenberg. Mrs. Mary Kutej was born March 4, 1869 at Old Hamry, Czechoslovakia. As a 19 year-old-girl, she left the old country and arrived in Texas in December 1888. In February the following year, she married Mr. John Kutej, and they made their home in Austin County near Sealy. In 1905, they bought their own farm near Fairchilds, Fort Bend County, where they lived since. Their union was blessed with 6 children, 2 sons and 4 daughters. One daughter, Sophie, died in 1913 at the age of 15 years, and one son, Frank, died 3 years ago. Mrs. Kutej died Thursday night, September 24, at 9:20 o'clock, and had reached the age of 67 years, 6 months, and 20 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged husband, John Kutej; one son, John Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. John Sefcik, Mrs. John Kohutek, and Mrs. Walter Sebesta; 9 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; one daughter-in-law and three sons-in-law; and many friends. She was a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a good neighbor and friend, loved and esteemed by all who knew her. Funeral services were Saturday, September 26, at 2 p.m. Rev. J.R. Vilt officiated at the burial services at the St. Paul's Presbyterian church at Needville, as well as at the public cemetery. The funeral arrangements were in charge of the Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg.
