Herald Coaster, March 15, 2000: Funeral services for Willie Otto Haar, 70, of Needville, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville, with The Rev. Lisa Gaul officiating. Burial will follow in Needville Public Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harley Zwahr, Charles Zwahr, Allen Zwahr, Burney Schramme, Jack Waddell, and W. Lee Hedt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Haar, Alton Haar, A.G. Tesch, David Wynne, and Richard Lay. Friends may call until 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, and from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School Street in Needville. Mr. Haar passed away March 13, 2000 at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1929 in Austin County to the late Willie and Leona Kenney Haar. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to play dominoes. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Louise Haar, and by two bothers, Fritz Charlie Haar and Irving Roy Haar. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Hilda Holland Haar of Needville; son, Steve Haar and his wife, Carol, of Flower Mound; daughter, Sue Hewitt and her husband, Royce, of Euless; sister, Hilda Zwahr and her husband, Alwin, of Fairchilds; two grandchildren, Sam Hewitt and Lauren Garrison; uncles, Henry Haar and his wife, Esther, and Eddie Haar and his wife, Ella; aunt, Judith Kenney; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ Building Fund or Land Fund.
