Bio

Robert F. "Bob" Thompson passed from this life on March 29, 2012. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Childress, Texas, with Cody Cochran officiating. Graveside will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery, McLean, Texas. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home, Childress, Texas, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2012. Robert Franklin Thompson was born August 22, 1931, in Gray County, near Lefors, Texas, to Hazel Groves Thompson and Richard Orin Thompson. He was one of six children. Bob passed from this life on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at his home in Childress, Texas. Bob attended school in Stinnett, Texas, and graduated from Stinnett High School in 1949. Bob loved the cowboy way of life from an early age. He spent his life around horses and cattle and loved to rope. He served in the United States Armed Forces in 1953 and received his Honorable Discharge in 1961. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. On March 18, 1960, Bob married Anita Louise Reed in Clovis, New Mexico. He attended Texas A & M University in College Station after they married. Bob and Anita had two daughters, Nancy Anne and Kristie Lea. Over a span of more than 50 years, Bob worked for the JA Ranch, Buckle L Ranch, Y Ranch, Four Sixes and Triangle Ranches, Walter Merrick Ranches, and Bird Ranch. Bob had a great love for his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved people and always made others a priority. He was a gentleman and was known for his wit, humor and encouraging ways. He was blessed with the opportunity to make his family's living doing what he loved most, being a cowboy. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Orin Emmitt Thompson. Bob is survived by his wife, Anita, of Childress, Texas; daughter Nancy Anne Simpson and husband, Curtis, of Childress; daughter Kristie Lea Crockett and husband, Brock, of McLean, Texas. His grandchildren are Meredith Simpson Ochoa and husband, Jonathan, of Vernon, Texas; Seth Simpson, of Lubbock, Texas; Clay Crockett, of San Angelo, Texas; and Cody, Callie, and Ben Crockett, of McLean, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Kaylee, Slayton, Lindy and Saylee Ochoa, of Vernon, Texas. Surviving siblings are Roy "Tuffy" Thompson of Happy, Texas; Pearl Thompson Williams of Stinnett, Texas; Fred Thompson of Stinnett, Texas; Marshall Thompson, and wife, Karen, of Edmond, Oklahoma.
