Inscription

Enlisted as a private in Company D, 44th Tennessee Infantry at Camp Trousdale on 9 Dec 1861. He deserted on 1 July 1863 and was subsequently dropped from the company rolls on 27 July. Carroll was captured by Federals at Tullahoma on 3 July and on the 9th gave an oath and was released to return to his home in Descherd, Tennessee.
