Bio

Loretta Blevins, 72, a long time Sand Springs resident passed from this life and into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mena, Arkansas on September 2, 1939 to Melfred Carter and Hester (Lively) Carter. Loretta graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1958. She and James "Jim" Blevins were married in Tulsa on November 15, 1957 and had celebrated over 54 years of marriage prior to her death. Loretta was the Volunteer Services Secretary at Hissom Memorial Center, and then had transitioned into other jobs there. As the Center began shutting down, as the secretary in the maintenance department, she was one of the last people to leave the site before it closed completely. She had also worked at the Pratt Library for a period of time and then became a Library Volunteer for many years. The library had recognized her with an award celebrating over 6,150 hours of volunteer service. Loretta and Jim have been members of Trinity Baptist Church for many years. On a personal level, Loretta played golf in the past and was reputed to be a pretty good golfer. She was also an avid gardener and could not stand to dig something up and throw it away so she would usually replant the item someplace else in the yard. The yard, driveway and roadway by her house are witness to this with multitudes of gladiolas everywhere. She was a geneology bug and enjoyed traveling around the area to do research. Several years ago, a mother cat delivered her litter at their house and then disappeared. Three kittens (the orphan kittens) survived and through successive similar situations that number has grown to seven cats at the household. Loretta is survived by her husband Jim, two sons, Curtis Blevins and wife Alice , and Randy Blevins and wife Tammy, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Jeanie McComb, and a brother, Lynn Carter and wife Jan. In addition she is survived by many other friends and a host of friends whose live she has touched through the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a son, Chuck Blevins who died in 2004. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 17th, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 18th, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and a graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 29, 2012 at Woodland Memorial Park, 1200 N. Cleveland, Sand Springs, under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service. ------------------------------------------- Father link Suggested By: Pam Miller, 4 Jan 2022
