He died at the Broyles clinic at Leesville of a fractured skull. State police reported that he staggered 5 miles from the scene of the accident to his home after 3 trees became entagled and fell on him while he was cutting fence post. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Pelt; two sons, Deford and Noleen Pelt of Leesville; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Johnson of Pitkin and Mrs. Goldie Price of Leesville; his father, Jim Pelt of Pitkin; two brothers, Frank and John Pelt of Pitkin and 8 grandchildren.
