Funeral services for Harvey C. Smith, 78 of the Pleasant Retreat community will be held at 10 a. m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, in the Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Retreat Cemetery. Rev. David Pearsons will officiate. Mr. Smith died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at his home. He was born Jan. 12, 1933 , in the Pleasant Retreat community to Oscar William and Melissa Lanor (Smith) Smith. Mr. Smith was a life long resident of Pleasant Retreat community. He married on Aug. 3, 1956, in First Methodist Church in Taylor. Mr. Smith was a farmer and rancer and was also employed at I.G.C. in Rockdale as a plant operator for 32 years, retiring on July 1, 1988. He was a member of Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church. Mr. Smith enjoyed farming his watermelons and river fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers , Wilmer Smith and James Smith. Survivors are his wife, a son, a daughter, two brothers, a sister, and three grandsons Rockdale Reporter 9/22/2011
