Bio
Tom Ellis Payne, age 85, of Pflugerville, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at home surrounded by a loving family after a recent illness. Tom was born on May 11, 1926, in San Angelo, Texas, to Lorena and Jake C. Payne. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific on the transport ship "Oneida." He retired from the Texas Department of Health in 1990, after 25 years as the State Radiological Officer. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; sister Geneva; brothers James and Ira Lee; and son Gary A. Payne. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Audell Jaecks Payne; sons Robert E. Payne, Jackie L. Payne (Penny), Thomas L. Payne (Barbara), Billy R. Payne (Lynn Miller), James T. Payne (Nickie); nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at The Providence Funeral Home in Taylor with his nephew Herman Russell Payne officating. Burial will follow in Hutto Cemetery, Hutto, Texas. -----------------------------------------
