Bio
Funeral Mass for Alfonse A. Hartl, age 73, was celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 1977, in St. Ann's Catholic Church near Hochheim by the Rev. Michael O'Shaughnessy of Yoakum. Burial was in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Frankie Hartl, Gilbert Adamek, Sylvester Chilek, Kermit Vinklarek, Johnny Kurtz, and Gratcian Chilek. A rosary was recited for Mr. Hartl on Wednesday evening at Buffington Chapel in Yoakum, where the body lay in state. Mr. Hartl of Route 2, Shiner, died at 11:45 on Tuesday, June 28, 1977, in a Hallettsville nursing home where he resided for just over three months. Mr. Hartl was born on September 28, 1903, in the Vlastenec community near Shiner, son of John and Terezie (Heidaker) Hartl. His parents and other members of his immediate family came from Czechoslovakia to Texas in March, 1892, and first located in the Dilworth community in Gonzales County. Some months later they established their homestead in the Viastenec area where he attended Michna School. He was married to Annie E. Chilek, and the couple made their home in the Dreyer community where his wife died a few months ago on March 9, 1977. Survivors include one son, Anthony A. Hartl of Dreyer; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Jemelka of Shiner; and four grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his father on March 31, 1942; his mother on November 18, 1957; four brothers, Joe A. Hartl on January 1, 1975, Jim C. Hartl on March 8, 1971, and John F. Hartl on May 22, 1972; one infant; and one sister, Mrs. Jim (Alvina) Pesek (Afonse's twin) on November 2, 1966.
