Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, Wednesday, June 25, 2003, Page 8A, Col 1 Byrenece Stevens Mineral Wells, TX Resident, 86 Byrenece Stevens, 86, of Mineral Wells, TX died Fri., June 20, 2003 at the Palo Pinto Nursing Center. Funeral services were at 10:30 am on Tues., June 24 at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Rev. Tom Peyton officiated. Linda Nance was the organist and Diana Hill was the soloist. Pallbearers were her family and friends. Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Mrs. Stevens was born Apr. 30, 1917 at Ord to Harry J. and Lydia Iona (Friend) Leach. She was raised in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1935. After receiving her education she was employed at the Valley County Courthouse in the Assessor's Office working for Frank Kruml. On Jan 7, 1939 she married Ralph Stevens at Kansas. The couple made their home in Ord, where she resided for 81 years. After her children were raised she returned to work at the Valley county Courthouse in the Assessor's Office working for Bob Sevenker. Her husband died Sept. 30, 1994. Mrs. Stevens moved to Texas in 1998 and then to Alaska to be with her sons. In February of 2003 she returned to Texas, living there until her death. Mrs. Stevens was a past member of the Baptist Church. She and her husband attended the Evangelical Free Church in Ord. She enjoyed flowers especially African violets, sewing, traveling, family vacations and playing the piano. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Carolyn Stevens, and Delmer Lee Stevens, all of Anchorage, AK and James A. And Sandra Stevens of Mineral Wells, TX; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville “Bed” Leach of Portland, OR; and a sister, Ava Psota of Fullerton. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Jered Stevens and two sisters, Pearl Merrill and Ora McDonald. ----------- D: Mineral Wells, Tx.
