A Funeral Mass for Lillian Horecka Duyka, 93, of Needville, will be held at 11:00 A. M., Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville with Monsignor Dan Scheel officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M., with a rosary being recited at 7:00 P. M., Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Davis Chapel, 9302 Church Street in Needville. Lillian was born October 14, 1918 in Hungerford to Emil Horecka and Emilia Janak Horecka. After attending school in Hungerford and Wharton, she married Joe Duyka, Jr. in 1938. Together they owned and operated Joe's Cafe in Wharton and then moved the business to Hungerford. After closing the cafe business, Lillian went to work in East Bernard at Marek's Super Market. Later she moved to Needville and worked at Ladd's Zero Market until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and K. J. Z. T. The last 9 years Lillian was a resident of the SPJST #2 Rest Home in Needville. She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, yard work, gardening and cooking for her family. Lillian is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Duyka, Jr.; parents, Emil and Emilia Horecka; daughter, Sandy Kettler Wenzel; sisters, Erlene Ryza, Bessie Ripple and Lydia Horecka. She is survived by her children, Tim A. Duyka and wife, Mary, of Wharton and Jody Duyka and wife, Ladele, of Needville; grandchildren, Tammy Beck and husband, Robert, of Cornelius, North Carolina, Terry Hinze and husband, Michael, of Wharton, Trudy Durham and husband, David, of Bellville, Venessa Grandjean and husband, Phil, of Cypress, Donna Barfield and husband, Jeff, of Cypress, Kristie Warr and husband, Cory, of Fulshear, and Kori Sury and husband, Jeremy, of Needville; 15 great grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will include Robert Beck, Jeremy Sury, Jimmy Ryza, Gerald Ripple, Phil Grandjean and Michael Hinze. Honorary pallbearers will include Jeff Barfield, David Durham, John Ripple, James King, Cory Warr and all employees of SPJST #2 Rest Home.
