Bio
Willie D Hopkins Jr of Lacy-Lakeview, past president of the Connally ISD Board of Trustees, died Monday in a local hospital. He was 71. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waco Memorial Park, the Rev Kent Berry and the Rev Frank Leach officiating. Mr Hopkins was born August 24, 1920, in Gholson and attended schools there. He played basketball for Major Keathly while attending Waco High school and graduated from Waco High in 1939. He also graduated from Four-C Business College. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and was formerly employed by Richards Equipment Company. He was past president of the Heart of Texas Lions Club and a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Laura M Hopkins, two daughters, Christy Diane Hopkins of Arlington and Laura Lynn Skala of Temple; two sisters, Edna Sandlin of Port Angeles, WA, and Opal Erlanson of Waco; two brothers, Charles H Hopkins of Temple and Kenneth R Hopkins of Crowley; and a grandchild.
