Kenneth R. Hopkins (1930 - 2011) Kenneth R. Hopkins, 81, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, in Fort Worth. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Crowley Cemetery, Crowley. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Baumgardner Funeral Chapel in Crowley. Kenneth was born July 27, 1930, in Gholson to W.D. and Bernice Hopkins. He played basketball, football and tennis at LaVega High School. He graduated in 1948. He was in the Navy from January 1951 to November 1954. He served on an aircraft carrier, the USS Bataan, during the Korean War. He was appointed postmaster of Crowley in 1967 and retired in 1985. He was with the railway mail service and was an air traffic controller before being appointed postmaster. Hoppy served on the Crowley School Board for many years. He met his wife, Virginia Ann Greenhill, of 54 years at Navarro County College. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Willie D. Hopkins; mother, Bernice Hopkins; brother, Willie D. Hopkins Jr.; sister, Mary F. Hopkins; and grandson, David Billman. Survivors: Wife, sons, daughters, five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Published in Star-Telegram on September 1, 2011
