h/o Beulah James
Lawrence Reason Jennings was born July 17, 1893 in Marthaville. His parents were William and Annie E. Parks Jennings. I could not find any information listing a date when Lawrence entered the service. He departed from Brest, France on Aug. 23, 1919 aboard the Amphion and landed in Brooklyn, New York on Sept. 3, 1919. In the war, he served in the 16th Infantry Machine Gun Company and held the rank of Private First Class. According to information obtained by Mike Birdwell, a letter from Roland Hedilberg of Marthaville, who served on the Western front, stated that Lawrence Jennings "covered himself in glory" on the battlefield by killing three Germans and capturing six. He was discharged on Sept. 17, 1919. He was married twice, and his spouses were Gladys Ainsworth Fisher and Beulah James Jennings. Lawrence had six children. He died June 30, 1982 at the age of 88 and is buried in the Beulah Methodist Church Cemetery. Written by Robert Gentry From The Natchitoches Times 13 Sep 1918 "A letter from Roland Hedilberg of Marthaville who is on the Western front, states that Lawrence Jennings also of Marthaville covered himself in glory on the battlefield by killing three Germans and capturing six. Hidelberg, who was with Jennings, was slightly wounded but is out of danger."
