WWI Veteran The Rev. Elijah Ross (Lige) Jennings was born Feb. 22, 1892 in Marthaville, the son of William and Annie E. Parks Jennings. He enrolled in the service May 27, 1918 and was discharged Sept. 21, 1918, after serving about four months. He married Viola Stockton in 1918, and they had six children. He is best remembered as a minister and servant of the Lord for the Congregational Methodist Church. He preached many sermons here at Jennings Chapel. He died in Pleasant Hill on April 8, 1981 at the age of 89. On his marker is written: "As you are now we once were, as we are now you one day will be, prepare to meet God." Written by Robert Gentry
