James E. Milstead, 65, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center in Temple. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at OakCrest Funeral Home, Waco. Burial with military honors will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at OakCrest Funeral Home. James was born in Longview, Texas, to George E. and Myrtle Joy Johnson Milstead. His family moved to Waco when he was quite young and he attended Waco public schools. After graduating from high school, James went to serve his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam from 1967 until 1969. Once he returned home, he worked in retail as the manager of a K-Mart, Scribner, and later at a Sam's Club in Oklahoma. In 1997, James opened a successful bar-b-que catering business in Durant, Okla., by the name of Custom Catering. He was preceded in death by his father, George. James is survived by his daughters, Misty McMinn and Mandy Hines; son, James Kegan Milstead and wife, Courtney; his mother, Joy Milstead; sisters, Linda Zimmerman and husband, John, of San Antonio, and Carolyn Kay Milstead, of Waco; several nieces, cousins, other family members, and friends.
