Bio

Clifford J. Starkey, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Park Place, Grand Island. Clifford was born March 1, 1921, at Howard County to Oliver and Anna (Washa) Starkey. Clifford attended school in Howard County. He was united in marriage to Stella Perkins in March of 1944 at Grand Island. The couple farmed in Cairo and later he sold cars for Diers Motors and drove a semi truck until his retirement in 1981. Clifford preceded him in death in June of 1981. On May 27, 1988, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Diekman in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where he resided all his adult life. Clifford was a member of the Eagles Club, (Golden Eagle). Saddle Club, Platt-Deutsch Society and the Teamsters 554, Omaha. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and liked to travel. Clifford was preceded in death by: parents, brother, Amos Starkey and first wife, Stella Starkey. Survivors are: wife, Evelyn; daughters and son-in-law, Connie Baird of Grand Island and Pat and Jim Reese, Dallas, Texas; and four grandchildren. Burial was in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on February 7, 2012
