Obituary originally published in The Williamson County Sun, transcript by Helen Wright O'Mallan Mr. John G. Gibbs, a native Texas and longtime citizen of Williamson County died suddenly Monday. Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Gibbs had suffered previous heart attacks, but at the time of his death he was up and about his duties. Funeral services were held at the Davis Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock conducted by Minister Horace Harrison of the Church of Christ and Rev. Russell pastor of the First Baptist Church. A duet composed of Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Dickson furnished the songs. The members of the flower committee were Mrs. Thomas Russell, Mrs. Roy Walker, Mrs. Jean Hausenfluke and Miss Estella Bynum. Pallbearers were Misters Alton Carter, Edgar Raney, W.B. [Russell or Purcel?], IM Hausenfluke, Willie Pope and Eddie Cloud. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. John G. Gibbs was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gibbs and was born in Ellis County, Texas on May 2, 1886. He became a Christian early in life meeting with the Church of Christ and was a member of the Strickland Grove Church of Christ at the time of his death. When a small lad he moved to Llano with his parents where he lived until he reached maturity. He moved to Williamson County in 1900 where he engaged in farming until 1936. He was married to Miss Nancy Pickens in Round Rock in 1902 and to this marriage was [ ? unclear] children were born. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lydia Wray and his wife who died Sept. 2, 1936. Mr. Gibbs was a man of quiet and friendly disposition and was active in his church up until his hearing failed.
