Bio

John Ziska came to Holt Co in 1883 and took a homestead 11 miles southwest of Atkinson. He died March 31,1944 at the farm home where he had lived continuously for 61 years. Burial was in St Joseph Cem. John was born in Bohemia Jan 27,1860 and came to America 6 years later with his parents, John and Frances Tasler Ziska. The family settled in Ringgold Co, Iowa where John grew to manhood. He married Nov 20,1888 to Mary Regal. 4 children were born to them. One daughter, Anna died in 1915. Mrs Ziska died May 30,1933. Surviving children are FJ, Mrs Joseph Dobrovolny and James of Atkinson, 15 grandchildren, 3 brothers Fred, Joseph of Stuart, Anton of Bonesteel, 3 sisters Mrs Fred Mlinar, Matilda Olson and Anna of Atkinson.
