William Eugene "Bill" Sachs 88, of Joplin passed away at 5;29 a.m. Monday January 23, 2012 at Freeman West Hospital. Bill was born October 31, 1923 in Mansfield Ohio to the late Karl Rudoff Sachs and Ellen Uhlig Sachs and had lived in Joplin most of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War 11. While in the Ary he was a cook and received several accommodations for his work in the kitchen. Bill worked for Hermaseal Inc. and LaBore Pump Inc. in Elkhart, Ind. for several years. While living in Elkhart, Ind. he was recognized as a true hero for saving a ten year old boys life who had been severly injured in a train accident from 1964-1965 he worked for Ruberoid Co. Kansas City. He worked for Bunny Bread for over 30 years and managed the former Park Motel in Joplin for eight years. Following his retirement he worked at several local grocery stores. Bill married Martilda Lorene Eden on April 18, 1951 in Arkansas. She preceded him in death on May 30 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Long and her husband Claude Independence Mo. Carol Murray Joplin, one son, Ronald Eugene Sachs and wife Fely, Joplin. grandchildren, Shane Sachs, Brent Sachs, Brandi Sachs, Dennis Murray, Tracey Parton, Shawn Bel. eleven great grandchildren. step daughter, Thelma Dailey, Climax Springs,Mo. and a step son, David Reavis. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8p.m. at Parker Mortuary, military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
