World War II US Army Air Corps LT COL Neal J., husband, father, grandfather, businessman and sportsman, having concluded his work here, left to be with his heavenly father on July 4, no doubt so we would all remember how proud he was of his country. Neal was old fashioned in the best sense of the term. He always put his family first; he believed in speaking frankly and working hard. He was born on January 21, 1916 to his parents Jesse Tullis Thomas and Syrena Pickney Thomas. His sisters: Marie, Bonnie, Dotty and brother J.T. loved their early life on their farm in Newcastle, OK. He graduated from Capitol Hill and then from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in accounting. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II he was stationed in Panama and Europe. He served in the Reserves and Air National Guard before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Having earned his CPA, he worked briefly in public accounting before he went to work with Standard Oil of Ohio, where he stayed for 31 years, rising to Controller at Exploration & Production. While at SOHIO he helped oversee projects in Oklahoma, Venezuela, Canada, South Africa, and Guatemala. But the projects he most enjoyed and had closest contact with were the Prudhoe Bay and Alaskan Pipeline projects. Neal married Nancy Dennis on March 26, 1946. They had a son James Neal and a daughter Louann. They shared 51 wonderful years of life together until she passed away in 1997. After his loss he and his family felt truly blessed when he met and married Vi Dorsch. Though their time together was short it was full and he cherished it. Neal loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and hunter. He loved training and working his bird dogs and a good dove or quail hunt, If it wasn't bird season you could find him on the golf course. Surviving him are is wife Vi; his son James Thomas and his wife Cathy and their children Jess, David and Anna; his daughter Louann Killgore and her husband Richard Killgore and their children Jefferson, Wade and Carly. He will also be missed by a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Neal J. began his life as a country boy and though he traveled the world and stood shoulder to shoulder with corporate leaders he never lost sight of what matters most. He was the most responsible, dignified and humble man you could meet. With a personality of dedication and frankness he served his family and provided more than a home, but a wealth of love and protection. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel with interment to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
