Former Napa Woman and Son Die in L.A. Tragedy Word Received of Death of Mrs. Harriet Mangram And Little Boy, 7 Word was received here today of the tragic death of Mrs. Harriet Ella Mangram, a former resident of this city, and her seven year old son, Lloyd. Press dispatches stated that Mrs. Mangram, despondent over financial reverses suffered by the family, on Sunday shot herself and her son in Los Angeles where they lived. The husband, James Mangram, broke down the locked door of a room and found his wife dead. The boy died on the way to a hospital. Members of the family in Napa were previously shocked upon learning of the tragedy. Friends here were also deeply affected. Known to friends here as the former Miss Harriet Jones, Mrs. Mangram attended the local public schools a number of years ago. Besides her husband, she is survived by her father, I.L. Jones of Napa and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Rollin Moyer of Napa, Mrs. T. H. Severson of Suisun Valley; Mrs. L. A. McNabb of Oakland, and W. K. Jones of Oakland. The remains of Mrs. Mangram and her son are expected to arrive at the Treadway Funeral Chapel this evening. Interment will be made in the Redwoods cemetery, although the time for the services has not been set, pending the arrival of Mr. Mangram who is accompanying the bodies. - St. Helena Star (July 26, 1932) --------------------------------------------- Death certificate dated August 1, 1932: Place of death: residence, 1272 Redondo Blvd., Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California Cause of death: Suicide, "gunshot wound of the head"
