Samuel Applegate NAMPA — Services for Samuel Applegate, 84, Route 1, Nampa, who died Sunday at a Nampa nursing home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alsip Funeral Chapel by Dr. James O. York Sr., Nampa First Christian Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Nampa War Eagle Barracks No. 459, Veterans of World War I. He was born July 19, 1894, at Viola, Mo., where he was reared and educated. He served in the Army during World War I, and was involved in the Battle of the Argonne Forest. He received several citations before being honorably discharged. He married Effie Meadows Dec. 25, 1920, in Missouri, and they moved to Parma in 1923. They worked as mail carriers for the post office until retiring in 1936. They moved to Nampa. He was a member of the Nampa First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and War Eagle Barracks No. 459. Surviving are his wife of Nampa; four sons, Cyrus Channel of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Charles Ray Applegate, William Edward Applegate and Robert Wayne Applegate, all of San Diego; three daughters, Mrs. Lew (Merle) Dunfee of San Diego, Mrs. Heber (Mary) Campbell of Lewiston, and Mrs. Frank (Alice) Blecha of Nampa; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and two daughters. Memorials may be made to War Eagle Barracks No. 459, Nampa, or to a favorite charity. The Idaho Statesman, Tuesday, November 14, 1978 Page 2B
