Bio
Horace W. Gatlin, 94, of Gatesville, died Thursday, July 10 in a local nursing home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Scott's Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Bergman officiating. Burial followed at Osage Cemetery. Mr. Gatlin was born March 17,1903 in Osage to the late Edgar Earl and Annie Lee (Shive) Gatlin. He spent his childhood and attended school in Osage. He married the former Mary Florence Griffith on Nov. 21,1925,in Gatesville and they made their home in Osage until moving to Gatesville in 1958. Mr. Gatlin worked for Gatesville High School and drove a school bus for many years. He retired in 1975. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Gatesville; a daughter, Sally Jean Williams of Fayetteville, NC; a sister, Annie Pearl Huffman of Lorena; three brothers, Bill Gatlin of Gatesville, Rufus Gatlin of Speeglevlle and E.L 'Shorty' Gatlin of Mexia; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were William Gibson Williams, Gary Huffman, Ricky Thompson, Earl Gene Gatlin, Harlan Huffman and Bob Beck. The Gatesville Messenger, Wed, July 16, 1997
