Bio

Son of Stephen & Jane Little Cumby, husband of Anna Bell Fowler, married September 17, 1896 Unknown newspaper - January, 1945 Virgil Cumby: 1869 - 1945 Virgil Cumby, former resident of the Glasgow community, who for the past number of years has been residing in Winchester, passed away January 19, 1945, at 1:30 p.m., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Vern King, in Winchester. He had suffered a stroke about eleven weeks ago, from which he had never recovered. He was born in Glasgow on May 11, 1869, the son of Stephen and Jane Cumby. In 1894 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Fowler, who preceded him in death Jan. 20, 1930. Also one daughter, Helen, passed away August 9, 1938. To this union, ten children were born, namely: Mrs. Mae Brown of Arenzville, Mrs. Cecil Mace of White Hall, Mrs. Goldie Fowler of Winchester, Elmer, William and Mrs. Erma Lynn of New Berlin, Mrs. Mildred King of Winchester, Everette of Springfield, and Helen, deceased. Virgil was a member of the Baptist church in Glasgow, becoming converted to the christian cause in 1900. Other surviving relatives besides the above named children are one sister, four brothers, Frank of Carrollton, Charlie of Bluffs, Isaac and Henry of Winchester, also twenty-five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a host of more distant relatives and close friends. Funeral services were conducted in the Glasgow Baptist church, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 21, at 2:30 o'clock, with Elder Curtis Blackburn, assisted by Rev. R. L. Schwab, in charge. Mrs. Clarence Adams, Mrs. Joe Sanderson and H. C. McMullen sang three hymns, "Eastern Gate," "Good Morning," and "It Is Well With My Soul," with Miss Lola Coats at the piano. The beautiful floral tributes were cared for by Nellie Ford, Marie Daniels, Ruth Moore, Madeline Battley and Frances King. Casket bearers were Richard King, Herbert White, George Battley, Ralph Lewis, Earl Lewis, and Walter Brown. Interment was in the Glasgow cemetery. OBIT: Shirley
