"Ted" Jonak, 74, of Broken Bow, formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Golden Living Center of Broken Bow. Ted was born May 11, 1937, in Sherman County to Frank Eugene Jonak, Sr. and Agnes Theresa Grudzinski Jonak. Survivors are: sons, Todd Jonak of Grand Island and Jeff Jonak of Omaha; daughters and sons-in-law, Christie Anderson-Guidi and Stephen Guidi of Phoenix, Jackie and Jim Shultz of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Isador and Marlyn Jonak of Grand Island; sisters and brother-in-law, Al-Marie and Clarence Persak of St. Paul, Esther Ambrose of St. Paul; grandchildren, Ryan Anderson, Christopher and Matthew Bigger; and great-granddaughter, Laycee Bigger. Ted grew up in the Ashton and Paplin area receiving his education in the rural schools. After school, he helped his father and other area farmers with the farming. They lived in Grand Island and he worked for Kraus Roofing for several years. He was employed at the Sugar Beet Factory for five years. In 1962, he began working for Diamond Engineering as a heavy equipment operator. He married Donna Yocum on June 27, 1962, at Grand Island. Ted retired in 1999 after 37 years of employment. Ted loved to dance and enjoyed listening to polka music. He enjoyed being around people and his faith was very dear to him, especially his devotion to the Blessed Mother. Ted was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Knights of Columbus. Ted was preceded in death by: brothers, Eugene, Frank and Larry, sister and brothers-in-law, Elaine and John Dart and Milton Ambrose. Burial was in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Cemetery, Paplin, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on January 12, 2012
