Kale Funeral Home 301 S. Main Street Osceola, IA 50213 Mardis Wintford Collins, son of Cager and Lottie (Craig) Collins was born September 3, 1929 in Weldon, Iowa and passed from this life January 10, 2012 near his home in Truro, Iowa at 82 years of age. Mardis graduated from Weldon High School in 1948 as valedictorian. He was united in marriage to Leona Wanda Powell on October 12, 1952 in Osceola. Mardis was a farmer and had lived on the farm near Truro for 51 years. He also worked as a sewing machine mechanic at Snowdens in Osceola, at Linfield Glove in Des Moines and as a maintenance engineer at Midwest Bag in Des Moines. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or make. Mardis enjoyed traveling to the Gulf Coast, taking time to hunt sea shells. He rarely missed attending the Iowa State Fair, Old Thrashers Reunion, Farm Progress Shows and Huskers Harvest Days. He always enjoyed watching movies with his family, especially westerns. He was a member of the Broadhorn Church and Gideons. Mardis was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Leona Collins of Truro; son, Terry (Patty) Collins of Truro; daughter, Vicky (Bill) Stout-Trickey of Osceola; grandchildren, Jennifer Collins of Osceola, Tony Collins of Commerce, Georgia, Jill Grass of Pleasant Hill, Bobbi (Brian) Boles of Osceola; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Harland (Avis) Collins of Weldon and Wayne (Deloris) Collins of Indianola; as well as other relatives and many friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Broadhorn Church or Virginia Township Fire & Rescue. Visitation will be on Friday evening 6:00-8:00 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.
