Bio
Harland Collins, son of Cager Collins and Lottie Craig Collins was born July 16, 1928 in Clarke County, Iowa, and passed from this life Friday, February 28, 2014 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 85 years of age. Harland attended rural schools and has lived all his life in the Weldon area. January 12, 1951 he was united in marriage to Avis I Claypool at the Christian Church parsonage in Osceola, Iowa. Harland was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 7, 1952. He served during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on October 3, 1953 with the rank of Corporal. He returned to his wife Avis and together they raised their family on a farm near Weldon. Harland worked as a bus mechanic for the I-35 School District from 1974 to 1980 until he retired. In his retirement he enjoyed helping Charlie Pearcy with his grocery route. Harland was a member of the Weldon Christian Church, Osceola Eagles #3495, V.F.W. and American Legion. Those relatives who preceded Harland in death were his parents, Cager and Lottie Collins, daughter Shirley Jones, brother, Mardis Collins and father and mother in law, Albert and Florence Claypool. Harland leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Avis Collins of Weldon, IA, daughter, Martha (Lyle ) Mankey, of Macks Creek, MO, daughter, Sandra (Kenneth) Weisberg of Osceola, IA, daughter, Debbie (David ) Nicholson of Des Moines, IA, son, Randy (Jean) Collins of Osceola, IA, son-in-law, William E. Jones of Marceline, MO, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, brother, Wayne (Deloris ) Collins of Indianola, IA, sister-in-law, Leona Collins of Truro, several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and many friends. Cremation was arranged by Kale Funeral Home and burial will be in the Wheelis Cemetery in Decatur County at a later date.
