Sister Evangelista Karlik, C.D.P., age 83 of San Antonio, passed away Friday, May 11, 2001. Her wake was held 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13 in the Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake. Rosary was recited 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. Interment followed in the Providence Cemetery. Sister Karlik was born September 25, 1917 in West, the daughter of Alois and Agnes Hanzelka Karlik. Her baptismal name was Sophie Karlik. She entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on June 3, 1933. She spent 35 years in elementary education, 19 of those years she taught first grade. She continued teaching at other levels in elementary schools and served as principal in several schools. In 1972, Sister Evangelista began her study in nursing. She received her Registered Nurse Degree in Nursing from Grayson County College of Nursing in 1976. She then began her ministry in health care. She retired in 1999. She is survived by one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Zizik-Kearns Funeral Home in San Antonio was in charge of arrangements.
