Bio

Salt Lake City, Utah - Our beloved Emma passed away on January 9, 2012, after living 88 wonderful years on earth. She was born August 13, 1923, in Tooele, Utah to Rebecca Atkin and Moroni Howarth Ostler. She spent her youth in Tooele, and graduated from Tooele High School with the Class of 1941 before attending Brigham Young University for two years. After World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack William Bowen, January 15, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jack died on December 27, 1991. She later met and married Delmar Gott, on March 19, 1993. Emma was blessed with a kind and loving disposition. Everyone who knew Emma loved her sunny, outgoing personality. She exemplified faith, charity, patience and unconditional love. She delighted in her role of wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was once described by one of her grandsons as "an angel on earth." She shared her talents, particularly her lovely voice, with those she loved, and performed in musical groups around the Salt Lake area. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she held many positions in which she served faithfully. Jack and Emma moved from Salt Lake City to St. George in 1979, where they enjoyed their retirement playing golf, entertaining grandchildren, and socializing with their many friends. While in St. George, she joined the Heritage Choir and enjoyed performing with them. She is survived by her husband, Delmar, children Kathleen Bowen Frost (Loren); Richard Lee Bowen (Nancy); daughter-in-law Ruthann Bowen; Gordon Jack Bowen (Stacey); all of Salt Lake City; Caryl Bowen Angelos (Mark) Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildren who were her heart's delight, and 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves 1 sister, Myrtice Jardine, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 2 sisters (Alice Manning and Dorothy Maher), 1 half-sister (Clara Christiansen), 1 son (Gregory Ostler Bowen), 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Cottonwood Murraydale Ward Chapel, 6300 South 300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Family and friends may gather for a viewing prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.
