Bio

Merle E. Morgan, 77, of Kimball, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Kimball County Hospital. Recitation of the Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Cantrell Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball, with the Rev. Francis Curran officiating. Burial was in the Kimball Cemetery in Kimball. Cantrell Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements. He was born on February 24, 1924, in Dix, Neb., to Claude B. and Anna (Gragert) Morgan. He attended grade school north of Dix in a country school. He was active in FFA while attending Columbus High School and graduated in 1941. He spent three years in the Army during World War II. He married Evelyn M. Gable on May 14, 1946, in Shelby, Neb. While in Kimball he owned and operated the Studebaker dealership and the Conoco Oil business. He was a member of the Kimball County Ag Society for 47 years and was associated with the Kimball Fire Department for 35 years. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Kimball; one son Craig Morgan and his wife Beth of Lakewood, Colo. four daughters, Jean Barrett and her husband Bob of Kimball, Lois Poessnecker and her husband Larry of Atkinson, Joyce Reed and her husband Leonard of Sheridan, Wyo., and Janet Adels and her husband Dennis of Casper, Wyo.; a sister Loretha Mulholland of Marysville, Wash.; a brother Ron Morgan of Firestone, Colo., 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Memorial gifts may be made to the Prairie Haven Hospice or the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department.
