Irene Elmina Harkins, 84, of Twin Falls, Idaho, died May 8, 1996 at Twin Falls Clinic and Hospital. She was the oldest child of Harry Thomas and Eula Bower Turner. In 1917 the family moved from Iowa to Lightning Creek in Converse County, Wyoming where they homesteaded. During the next 10 years the family moved to Parkerton, Lost Springs and Shawnee. While living in Shawnee, she met DeLue Melrose Harkins and they were married June 15, 1929, in Lusk, Wyoming. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary next month. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Willow Springs, Mo., where they lived for eight years. As the depression was ending they left Missouri and returned to Converse County. In 1960 they moved to Twin Falls where they remained for a number of years before living for a short time in other areas of Idaho, Washington and Oregon. They then returned to Twin Falls and lived at Valley Vista Village for the last eight years. Survivors include DeLue Harkins of Twin Falls; children Lucelia Ziska of Cody, Chester (Rosie) Harkins of Coos Bay, Oreg.; Clifford (Pamela) Harkins of Sheridan and Clare (Nancy) Harkins of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Iola Romesburg of Weaubleau, Mo.; and brothers Harry Turner of Vancouver, Wash., and Archie Turner of Twin Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Eugene Turner, and one grandchild. Information was obtained from her obituary and cemetery records.
