ILA ORR (from the Harmon County History Book) Ila Reneau Orr is the daughter of Albert Reneau and Rosa Ellis Reneau. Her family came to Dodsonville in 1924 and farmed on Daro Camp's farm. It is still called the Reneau place because they lived there so many years. Ila had these brothers and sisters: Elbin, John, Lola, Maloy, Ila, Thelma, Truman, Adrian, Willard, Alta, Delcia and Rosedell. Ila's father was a sheriff, a school teacher, and a mail carrier in Oneonta. Their trip to this area took 10 days in a T-Model truck. At night the family slept in the truck and on quilts spread on the ground. They prepared their meals each day beside the road. Not once did they ever stop at a restaurant. Ila's family was very religious, so they did not travel on Sunday. That was the day set aside for the family to read the Bible. The children attended Kelly school one year, with the remainder of their schooling at Dodsonville. Ms. Hunsaker was Ila's favorite teacher. "She was so kind and good. My best friends were Lola Milligan and Ruth Ellis". Dodsonville was quite a large town with a train, a depot, drug store, grocery stores, general merchandise stores, barber shop, doctor's office, undertaker and theatre. Mr. Downs was the undertaker. Dr. Edwards was the Doctor. He came to our home when my children were born. I remember how we walked up the sidewalks and down on the other side. This was our Saturday afternoon amusement. There were such few cars. Everyone went to town to visit friends and neighbors and get a week's supply of groceries. We were Methodists, but there wasn't a Methodist church, so we joined the Nazarene church. My uncle, Elbert Ellis, was the pastor. The young people had church entertainment, house parties and ball games. It was at a ball game that I met Joe Orr. We were married in the Childress Court house by the judge. Our first farm is the one now owned by Fanny Jean Martin. Our girls, Elbe and Jtuan, were born here. Then we moved to the Arnett Community where Ms. Lewis, Ms. Doolittle and Georgia Holleman were their teachers. Elbert Patton was superintendent. They loved Ms. Holleman and she would come to visit us nearly every week. Joe passed away in June of 1968, and " as soon as we got the crop gathered, we moved to Hollis". Ila remains very active in the O M Club, which had its 50th anniversary recently. She belonged to a ladies quartet and they presented many performances for the Red Cross, nursing homes and special events. She worked as a saleslady for Hill's, Aurelia's, the variety store and Parker's Dry Goods Store at Dodson. She has served the public for several years. There are two grandchildren who live in California.
