Larry Lisle Mason, 74, a lifelong resident of Central City, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Larry was born April 1, 1937, at his grandmother's home in Central City to Lisle L. and Sophie M. (Zlomke) Mason. Survivors are: wife, Lois of Central City; sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Krissy Mason of Portland, Ore., Kevin and Jan Mason of Aurora, Kelly and Denise Mason of Kronberg; daughters and sons-in-law, Kerry and Mitch Price of Wood River, Kayln and Carl Shively of Clarks, Kathy and Rick Davidson of Grand Island, Kristie and Tom Grandfield of Hoskins, Karla and Jim Jensen of Chapman; a son-in-law, Gerry Shively of Fullerton; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Sandy Mason of Mt. Holly, S.C., Rodney and LaVonne Mason of Sacramento, Calif.; and sister, Diane and Joe Vela of Tracy, Calif. Larry grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1955. On Nov. 10, 1956, Larry was united in marriage to Lois I. Roumpf at the Baptist Church in Central City. They made their home and raised their family in Central City. Larry worked for Wilson Concrete in Grand Island, the Chapman Elevator, Schmader Electric in Grand Island, Knight Brothers Construction in Chapman, he was an over the road trucker, and retired from Bonnavilla in Aurora in 1999. After his retirement, he helped his son, Kirk, in his construction business. Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Eagle's Club in Central City. He enjoyed playing cards and dice, karaoke, pool and bowling and had belonged to leagues; and in his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. His greatest enjoyment came from the time he spent with his family and grandchildren and their families. Larry was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kim Shively, in 2009. grandson, Zachary Pavlik; granddaughter, Ashley Mason Grimes; and sisters, Delores Norgard and Carol Rauer. Burial was in the Central City Cemetery, Central City, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on December 7, 2011
