GAR Vet - Co. A 48th Iowa Inf. - Father Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Saturday, 19 September 1925 Death of Veteran Occurs at Phillips Phillip, Neb., Sept. 19.--(Special Dispatch).-- George W. Lacy, for 37 years a resident of Hamilton county, died here late Friday afternoon, after being bedfast about two weeks. Senility and complications were given as the cause of his death. He was 82 years of age and served two years during the Civil war. Born on March 29, 1843, in Clinton county, Ohio, he moved to Iowa with his parents when he was ten years old. Aftr his services in the Civil war, he married Miss Mary Jane Parker in 1864 in Iowa. They moved to Hamilton county, in this state, in 1884 and for 30 years resided on a farm near here. Four years thereafter they lived at Murphy. Mrs. Lacy died Dec. 21, 1921, and since then Mr. Lacy has resided here with a daughter, Mrs. Nora Englund, at whose home the death occurred. Seven children remain to mourn the death of the early settler and father, one of the children having died in infancy. Besides mrs. Englund, the other children are Mrs. Ida Devore, of this place; Mrs. Jane Scott, of Loup City; Will, of Sargent; Asa, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Dale, of St. Paul, and Henry, of Grand Island. Funeral services will be held Sunday from the home of Mrs. Englund at 2 p.m. and from the Community church, at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. J. H. Bankson in charge. Burial will be made at the family lot in the local cemetery. The deceased was a member of the local chapter of the I.O.O.F.
