Alvie Basil Wilson, 86, a long-time Waco resident, passed away at his home Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, after a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, in Rosemound Cemetery with Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Burial will be beside his grandson, Jackson Lance Shank. No visitation is scheduled. Viewing will be at the cemetery prior to the service. Alvie was born around the Downing Community close to DeLeon, Texas, to the late Leonard and Velma Wilson, the oldest of four children. Alvie served in the U.S Army Air Corp. during World War II. After his service, he moved to Waco in 1944 to work at General Tire and Rubber Company for 41 years as a foreman. After the death of his first wife, Jenita, Alvie married Kathleen Chatham Wilson on Aug. 16, 1969, at Columbus Avenue Baptist in a ceremony officiated by Dr. Joe Weldon Bailey. Alvie lived a very simple life and loved his family. He liked to work around the cows on his farm. He never asked for much in life, but his grandsons gave him so much happiness. He was a man people could be proud of by his work ethic and his love of family. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40: 28-31. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jenita Jo Wilson in 1956; an infant son; and an infant grandson, Jackson Lance Shank, on May 21, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen; daughter, Laura Shank and husband, Barry, of China Spring; twin grandsons, Ragan and Rian Shank; step-granddaughter, Hailey Roberts, of Sherman; siblings, J.W. Wilson, of Denison, Wassalee Tucker, of Early, and Larry Wilson, of Atlanta, Ga.; many other family members and friends; and a wonderful caregiver, Joyce Toliver. Waco Tribune-Herald: 11/30/2011
