Cleo E. Taft, 89, of Falls City, NE, passed away April 13, 2007 at Falls City. He was born October 2, 1917 at Humboldt, NE to the late Harvey O. and Alma E. (Mehlin) Taft. Cleo enlisted in the US Army June 19, 1945 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. He was honorably discharged December 15, 1946 at Bolling Field, DC. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. On September 27, 1952 he married Helen C. Knobbe at St. Anne's Catholic Church at Shubert, NE. Cleo was raised in Richardson County, NE and moved to the current family farm in 1935. When the couple married they established their home in the present family home. Cleo was a farmer his entire life, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, BPO Elks Lodge #963, earning Elk of the year, Treasure for District 47 School Board for thirty-seven years, and a rural fireman for thirty years all of Falls City. Cleo is survived by sons, Edward and wife Glenda of Plattsburg, MO, Robert and wife Connie of Dawson, NE, Kevin and wife Kay of Falls City, Steve and wife Tracy of Omaha, NE, daughters, Connie Vonderschmidt and husband Kevin of Rulo, NE, Mary Lyons and husband Jim of Omaha, sisters, Maxine Schuetz and Harvina Thomas and husband John of Falls City, thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James, sisters, Verine Vogt and Naomi Harshbarger. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard. A parish rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6:30 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with family greeting friends afterwards. (dorrandclark.com/obituary)
