VERNON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OBITUARY ARTICLE: An Aged Ladies Passes - Mrs. Sam McDaniel Lucinda E. Leatherberry was born in Ohio, April 20, 1844, coming with her parents to Richland county at the age of 8 years. In the year 1863 she married Sq. S. H. Mossholder, taking the place of a mother, he having five children, namely, Judge W. J. and George Mossholder of San Diego, California; Albert and Mrs. Grand DeWitt of Viroqua, and to this union were born ten children, Charlie dying in childhood. The remaining ones being with her to the end. In 1893 she was married to Samuel McDaniel and again filled as near the place another mother as a step-mother could, he having several children. She joined the M. E. church some fifty years ago and since has been a faithful worker. She spent both time and money aiding the uncivilized nations of the world. She was a trut worker for the ladies aid of which she was a charter member, and also a social member of R. N. A. of Bloomingdale. A few years ago she was stricken with a severe sickness which left her in failing health. But no complaining did she do except saying that her eyesight was very poor. She was taken ill the last day of April and passed away May 5th, 78 years and 15 days. She leaves to mourn her, an aged husband, five sons and four daughters: S. W. Mossholder, Benton Mossholder, Bert, Otto and Adam Mossholder, Mrs. Greel Alderman, Mrs. Chas. Parr, Mrs. Norman Lombard and Alice, who is at home. Also 53 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren, besides many relatives and a host of friends. Relatives express their heartfelt thanks to all who aided them in their affliction and for the beautiful floral offerings.
