Roy Stanley Bonner, second son of Oliver Alexander Bonner and Lulabel McAdams, was born at Bonnerville on December 23, 1927. According to his cousin Albert Bonner, in Roy's youth his nickname was "Stud." Like his brother, he attended Texas A&M University. He served in the Philippines as a PFC in the United States Army during World War II. Roy spent his career in the petroleum industry with various companies: Texas Oil Company; Christiansen Diamond Company; William Diamond Bit Company. In the 1950s, Roy and Sidney Rosser were both working on drilling rigs along the Texas coast. One weekend, they decided to race on their way home to Fairfield. This was before the interstate and they came up US 75 through all the towns, lights, railroad crossings, etc. Lots of police were looking for them before they arrived in Fairfield. Roy was briefly married to Mrs. Christelle Rudasill Blount, six years his senior; they were divorced. In 1963, he married Natalie Broussard of Lafayette, Louisiana and they made their home in Houma, Louisiana. About 2002, Roy returned alone to live in his mother's house in Fairfield. Roy's and Natalie's sons, Oliver Young and Roy Stanley II, were raised in Houma. Roy spent his last months in a nursing home and died in Fairfield on October 30, 2011. He is survived by his wife Natalie B. Bonner; children, Oliver Young Bonner and Roy S. Bonner II and grand daughter, Vanessa Catherine Bonner. Visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 10:00 - 11:30 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 12:00 noon Saturday following the visitation at Bonner Cemetery in the Stewards Mills Community.
