Bio

Oliver Alexander Bonner married Lulabel McAdams, daughter of Thomas Jefferson McAdams and Laura James, on December 20, 1919 in Fairfield by Rev. Bell, Methodist minister. She was born at Stewards Mill on April 23, 1901, After attending Stewards Mill School; Westminster College, Tehuacana, Texas; and North Texas State University, Denton; she taught school in Freestone County for twenty-three years. Roy told the following: "When I was a freshman in high school, Mama read in "McCall's" magazine about breast self-examination and found a lump in her breast. She went to Dr. Bonner who sent her to Dallas to Dr. Goode for surgery. She was one of the first successful breast cancer surgeries." In her later years, she worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses in Fairfield. Ol and Lulabel made their home just east of his parents' first home at Bonnerville. They were parents of two sons, Oliver Alexander, Jr. and Roy Stanley. Ol and Lulabel were members of Fairfield-Harmony Presbyterian Church. Lulabel belonged to Fairfield Chapter No. 331, Order of the Eastern Star and often served as organist. Kerry remembers his grandmother as "A very intelligent woman who valued education and worked every day to serve her family and community…Very strong-minded and independent…." Ol died March 21, 1953. After his death, Lulabel had her house moved to 729 N. Fairway in Fairfield.
