Bio

PVT US Army WWII Elbert B. "Bert" Walker, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 1990 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, following a short illness. He was born Jan. 8, 1918 at Sterling, Colorado, the son of Leonard and Flora Fawn (Staggs) Walker. He was reared and educated in Sterling and North Platte, Nebraska. He married Ruth Blakeslee on Aug. 25, 1939 in Ord, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He owned and operated various restaurants on the west coast. He owned and operated the Wrangler Café in Douglas during the 1970s with his wife. He retired in 1979 and moved to Oregon. In 1982 he returned to Douglas where he resided until his health forced him to move to Hot Springs, S.D. in August 1989 and then to Aurora, Colorado to be near the VA Medical Center. He is survived by his daughter, Mary J. Walker of Aurora, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, on March 25, 1989; and three brothers.
