Evelyn L. Fankell, 92, of Nashville, TN. formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Evelyn was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Wilcox, Neb., to Henry and Gesina (Johnson) Riefesel. On April 3, 1937, she married Herbert Fankell in Elm Creek, Neb. He died Sept. 2, 2007. Survivors are: daughter, Marilyn Fankell-Nelson of Nashville; grandsons, Richie Nelson and his wife, Laurie, of Brentwood and Kevin Nelson and his wife, Carla, of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Brittany Nelson and Matthew Nelson, both of Brentwood, and Audrey Nelson of Nashville; and sister, Gladys Henderson of Kearney. Evelyn received her education in Wilcox. She and Herb lived in Elm Creek, Minden, Axtell and Denver before moving to Kearney in 1968. Evelyn was employed at the J.C. Penney store in Kearney for 22 years until she retired in 1981. Evelyn was a member of First United Methodist Church. In 2008, Evelyn moved to Nashville to live with her daughter, Marilyn. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Roger, on Jan. 15, 2008, and son-in-law, Gary, in 1997. Published in Kearney Hub on October 17, 2011
