Daughter of James Benjamin Simpson and Lillie Dale Blackshear Simpson Bessie Hammer Vega – Bessie Hammer, 83, died Wednesday. Services are pending with N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors of Amarillo. Mrs. Hammer was born in Turkey moved to Vega in 1920 from Hall County. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband, W.A., died February 13. Survivors include a son, Gene of Panhandle; two daughters, Laverne Harwell Jackson of Vega and Catherine Banks of Phoenix; a brother, Floyd Simpson of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Margaret Russell of Okmulgee, Okla., and Irene Warden of Dumas; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
