Bio
PARIS, Texas Funeral for Wanda Baker, 75, Paris, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the auditorium of Sterling High School with the Rev. Michael Dye officiating. Mrs. Baker passed from this life Tuesday, Oct.11, 2011, at a Paris hospital following a brief illness. Interment will be in Sterling Cemetery under direction of Starrett Funeral Home. Wanda was born March 23, 1936, in Comanche County, the youngest of nine children born to Elmer Ernest and Mary Vera Burns Julian. She was a graduate of Sterling High School, and retired after 34 years of service with the Civil Service Commission, where she was secretary to the Inspector General at Fort Sill. More important than her work was her dedication to family and home. She married Edward DeLoren Baker on Nov. 30, 1956, in Lawton. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and their friends, and participating in their activities. She was a wonderful cook, and a voracious shopper. Among her greatest loves were her church and her community, where she was always faithful with her service. Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters: Kimberly Herndon, Stillwater; and Kristy Rodgers and husband James, Paris, Texas; five grandchildren: Kacey Diaz and husband Mike, Kelsey McLaughlin, Kori McLaughlin, Katherine Rodgers and Jacob Rodgers; a brother, Melvin Julian, Sterling; a sister, Thelma Henderson, Sterling; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Stephen Herndon. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
