Nicolaus was born in Nospelt, Luxembourg, the son of Nicolas Gregorius (b. 1792) and Catharina Sand. He immigrated in 1866. He married Kathrin Peters in Granville, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 14 Nov 1871; they had 8 children: Catherine b. 1874, Michael b. 1875, Andrew b. 1877, Anna b. 1878, Mary/Maria b. 1883, Theresa b. 1884, Leo 1886-1886, and Leo Joseph b. 1887. Nicolaus was a carpenter and farmer, and was an active member of St. Edward's Parish. OBITUARY Nicholas Gregorius, the town treasurer of Center, died yesterday afternoon Prescott Hospital, where he has been undergoing treatment. The deceased leaves a large family who will be in part provided for by a policy of $2,000 carried by the deceased in the Catholic Knights.[17] Herr Nick Gregorius, the treasurer of the Town of Center, succumbed on last Friday afternoon in Prescott Hospital in Appleton, where he was already for months at the sick-bed, in medical treatment for the kidneys and liver complaints. He was a successful general farmer from the Town of Center, whose occupants honored him repeatedly through election to honor and positions of trust. In strong manhood, 42 years old, will he in the next world be remembered, and besides the wife, a daughter of Herr Peters from Center, weep six small children the premature loss of their father. The deceased was a native of the grand duchy Luxemburg, come at an early age to the U.S,, where he lived earlier in Milwaukee County and then the last 14 years in the Town of Center. For around 1 1/2 years Herr Gregorius belonged to "Catholic Knights of Wisconsin," and had his life insured for $2000 in this Order. Around sixty members of the Appleton branch of the Order took part, also many other friends of the deceased took comfort in the funeral ceremony on Sunday evening held in the St. Edwards Church in Center in the utmost unfavorable weather
