North Vernon, Indiana August 19, 1915 George W. Spaulding died Tuesday evening, Aug. 10, at his home east of Grayford, in his eighty-first year. He was born Feb. 22, 1834, at what is now known as Burnham farm near which he has always resided. The funeral service took place Friday at noon from the residence, and interment at Rush Branch cemetery. Two musical selections were rendered with good taste by Mr. and Mrs. Holmes. Several hundred relatives, friends and neighbors attested their respect and sincere regret by their attendance. The floral offerings were beautiful, completely covering the coffin. Among those were noticed a set piece of exquisite design from Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stillinger and another from Mrs. Lydia Anderson and Mrs. Ben Peterson. The pallbearers were Wm. Ale, Henry Parker, G. M. Crist, Thos. B. Carney, Sam'l Reed and W. C. Vinson. Mr. Spaulding was married to Miss Elizabeth Stillinger, Sept. 20, 1857, and this union was blessed by eleven children, seven of whom still survive. They are: Mrs. Alice Bramley, Mrs. Lydia E. Shippman, G. E. Spaulding, Mrs. Etta Mitchell, Mrs. Jennie Austin, B. F. Spaulding, and E. L. Spaulding. Mr. Spaulding has a sister still living, Mrs. Lydia Anderson, of Spencer, Indiana. Mr. Spaulding often talked entertainingly of the early days in Jennings county when it was a common thing to chase deer from the corn fields.
