Bio

Ethel Loretta Medlin of Lubbock celebrated a heavenly birthday party on December 6, 2008, the day she turned 96. She was born on December 6, 1912 to Lewis and Callie (Walker) Shelton in Nile (Milam County), Texas. She married Robert Glen Medlin on October 27, 1945, and they made their home in Tahoka. After her husband preceded her in death in 1968, she moved to Lubbock and worked diligently each day in various jobs, such as being a nanny and caregiver for the sick, as well as serving in her church and community. Ethel worked as a part-time "granny" in a daycare center until she was 94. She also was a member of the Lubbock Sr. Citizens and the grandparents program at the Lubbock State School, and a member of the Southcrest Baptist Church. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Wendell and wife Karen; their daughters, Bethany and husband Duane, Rocio and husband Ruslan; her son, Robert's wife Debbie; their daughter, Kelli and husband Doug; and Darren's wife, Gina. Many nieces and nephews have loved "Aint Ethel" and her eight great-grandchildren will miss "G.G." as well. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert; and one grandchild, Darren. Celebration of Life Services will be at 1:30 p.m., December 8, 2008 at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Pallbearers will be Doug Andrews, Duane Brooks, Jim Dulin, Tom Dulin, Terry Henderson, and Nathan Morris. Interment is to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
